Scheveningen insures quick response to heart attack situations

(Fri 30 July 2010)

Scheveningen is the first beach destination in the entire country with a six-minute zone. If someone suffers a heart attack and the emergency number 112 is called, that person can be reanimated and defibrillated within six minutes.

Employees in thirteen restaurants and bars along the beach are trained and automated external defibrillators (AED) are in place. The AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac rhythms in patients and is able to treat them through defibrillation. The application of electrical therapy allows the heart to establish a normal rhythm.
