English man George Ryall, was the surprise winner of the first edition of the Van Lanschot Senior Open which is part of the European Senior tour.

The Englishman's winning score was -10 (278) for the 3 round event at the Koninklijke Haagsche Golf & Country Club. Ryall made a birdie on the last hole to defeat the overnight leader Andrew Oldcorn by one shot. Ryall's victory earned him a cheque for 37,500 euro.

The big favourites found the Haagsche golf course challenging. Boonchu Runagkit, number 1 on the Order of Merit, the annual ranking finished tied in twelfth place with a -1 total.

The two main crowd pullers were Ian Woosnam and Sam Torrance who finished tied at 48 and 68 respectively.
