New Exhibition: Museum Meermanno Book Happiness
Museum Meermanno (Museum of the Book) presents Book happiness - Fifty Highlights from the Museum Meermanno from 26 June to 24 October 2010.
Hidden Treasures
This summer and autumn, Museum Meermanno is putting fifty highlights on show. They have never been exhibited at the same time before. Most of them are preserved in the depot and are only taken out for temporary exhibitions (frequently in other countries). They include unique mediaeval manuscripts such as Jacob van Maerlants Rijmbijbel (rhymed biblical history) and the Book of Hours by Catharine of Cleves, as well as archival documents such as the proofs for letters designed by Jan van Krimpen.
New context
What is more, the exhibition Book Happiness will enable visitors to view these fifty highlights in an entirely new context. Thus, items from Greek and Roman antiquity are usually displayed in a nineteenth-century setting on the first floor, but for this occasion they have been placed in the limelight as unique exhibits. This exhibition will also highlight the museums founder, Baron van Westreenen, as well as the monumental building in which the museum is housed and its gardens.
Website
From 26 July onwards, all fifty highlights can be viewed on the museums upgraded website. For teaching materials, lectures and other activities, and renting space for events, go to www.meermanno.nl (Museum Meermanno | Museum of the Book).
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sundays from 12:00 to 17:00.
